Detail of a mosaic from the house of the "Dionysian procession" in El Jem, dating back to the reign of Antoninus the Pious (AD 138-161), showing the divine procession advancing toward a rustic altar upon which lies a vase, alongside a maenad partially covered by a wind-blown veil. In the center of the scene, the young Dionysis rides naked on an enormous lion. The god is preceded and followed by two satyrs wearing only loincloths, followed by the drunken Silenus riding an African dromedary.
Middle of the 2nd C. AD (El Jem Museum).
