The poet and the nine Muses

This mosaic, the corners of which are occupied by female busts representing the four seasons, is divided into medallions by interlacing laurel wreaths. The central circle shows the poet, seated, and behind him stands his inspiration, probably the Muse of history, Clio Each of the surrounding medallions contains the full-length portrait of a Muse.

2nd half of the 2nd c. AD(Sfax Museum).
