The triumph of Dionysus

The triumphal theme is secondary in this mosaic, the entire field of which is invaded by dense vine foliage, amidst which gambol grape-gathering Cupids, a lion, and two tigresses, among other figures. In the middle of one of the long sides, the divine procession is shown in a chariot drawn by two tigresses led by the god Pan. In the chariot ride three figures, Dionysis, a representation of Victory busy crowning him, and an aged Silenus.

Late 3rd C. AD(Bardo Museum).
