Tunisian news media appoint women as editors on International Women's Day

In response to UNESCO's call on International Women's Day, Tunisian news media have appointed women as editors for the day of March 8, 2000.
The national newswire service, Tunis Afrique Presse, and Tunisian dailies "El Hourria", "Le Renouveau", "La Presse", "Assahafa", "Assabah", "Le Temps" and "Achourouk" all announced in Wednesday's editions this temporary editorial gender change.
Several editorials were also written on this occasion by women on various topics pertaining to women's rights and ambitions.
The ratio of women in the media has increased from 22% in 1994 to more than 25% in 1998.The percentage of women in audio visual media has topped the 40% mark in 1998.Women of Tunisia enjoy full equality of rights with men. They assume an increasing role in public life and private entreprise.
