Prime Minister pays visit to US Embassy to convey condolences

Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi paid a visit Friday to the US Embassy in Tunis to convey Tunisia's condolences to the United States in the wake of the terrorist attacks against Washington and New York.

He was accompanied by Mr. Abdelaziz Ben Dhia, minister of state and special adviser to the President of the Republic and Mr. Sodok Fayala, secretary of state to the Minister of Foreign affairs in charge of Maghrebi and African affairs.

"Upon instruction from President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, I wish to convey, on behalf of the President, the government and people of Tunisia, our sincere condolences to President george W. Bush, the American people and the families of innocent victims, in the wake of the terrorist attacks against the United States of America perpetrated in Washington and New York," wrote the Prime Minister in the register opened by the embassy for condolences.

Mr Ghannouchi added, "In these painful circumstances, Tunisia reiterates its firm condemnation of the heinous crimes which caused the death of a great number of innocent people and reaffirms its determination to pursue its efforts on all fronts towards the establishment of security, peace and stability in the world. Our country will endeavor also for the
consecration of the noble principles and humanitarian values which reject violence and terrorism, as has been underlined by President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali."
