The Tunisian "2001" soccer team won the gold medal of the 14th Mediterranean Games Tournament by beating
their Italian counterparts 1/0 in the final played on Saturday in Rades November 7 Stadium.
The goal was scored by Ali Zitouni (76th minute, on penalty kick).

Tunisia and Senegal are equally placed as the African Taekwondo champions (all catgories included), as part of
the 6th edition of this event held in Dakar, the Senegalese Capital, on the 7th-9th instant.
During these Championships, Tunisia won 4 gold medals and as many bronze. the gold medals went to Neila Chaouachi
(under 55 kg), Mohamed Omrani (under 67 kg), Lobna Ayari (under 47 kg) and Souheil Hammami (under 84 kg).
The bronze went to Mohamed Amine Amri (under 58 kg), Monia Mezrigui (under 51 kg), Hichem Hamdoun (under 72 kg)

Greek Koukkos is also the gold medallist of the clean-and-jerk competition with 212.56 kg, ahead of his fellow

Victories by women athletes bring Tunisia record gold

Tunisian women athletes won four gold medals Wednesday and Thursday in the gymnastics and wrestling competitions
of the 14th Mediterranean games taking place in Tunisia, September 2-15, 2001.
After Gymnast Leonie Marzouk, Wednesday, it was the turn of three women wrestlers, Fadhila Louati, Saida Riabi
and Salma Ferchichi to win gold.
The latter had in fact beaten world champion Anna Gomis in the semi-finals.
Since the start of the competition, Tunisia has won 7 gold medals, already a record for this North African nation
in
any Mediterranean Games.
Weightlifters earned Tunisia three gold medals on the second day of the games.Youssef Sebai won two gold medals
while his team-mate Atef Jarray earned one gold medal.
More than 3,500 athletes from 23 nations are taking part in the games which opened Sunday.

1st Tunisian Medal At Swimming , 3 Mediterranean Records Beaten

Tunisian Oussama Mellouli offered on Wednesday its first medal , a bronze one ,
to Tunisia at day 3 of the swimming tournament .
Oussama Mallouli ranked third at the final of the 400 m medley in 4’25"20 beating
his own record achieved at Tunisia’s championship last july (4’32"97).
Besides, three Mediterranean records were beaten : first by Spanish Paula Carballido
at the 400m medley in 4’46"64 , thus improving the record 4’51"99 held since 1997 by French Nerdege Cliton.
then, by French frank exposit at the 200 m butterfly in 1’58"97 , beating his own record held since 1993 in
France.
The third record was beaten by the Spanish women’s team at the 4x100 m freestyle
relay in 3’48"26 , breaking the former record also held by Spain (3’48"86).
